Quick and Cute Chair Make-Over

Image
Can it really be seven years since I made over my garage sale office chair ? Well, times have changed, and for the better. The office chair is now officially the craft room chair. It is now covered in Echino fabric , instead of an old t-shirt. And now the lone tiger has retired, bowing out to a big, busy group of animals and insects. BEFORE: AFTER:

Josef Frank

"The home does not have to be planned out in detail, just put together by pieces its inhabitants love." - Josef Frank (via ScandinavianDesign.com ) Google's all dressed up today, to celebrate the125th birthday of Josef Frank, an Austrian/Swedish architect and designer of furniture and textiles. Google homepage on July 15, 2010 I don't know much about Josef Frank (and his Wikipedia entry is pretty limited), but I like what I see. Reconfirming that I have a weakness for eccentric Scandinavian fabric design... " Brazil " pattern on the walls (1943-45) " Terrazzo " Fabric (1944) "Green Birds" fabric (1944) I also like what I read about Frank -- this is from ScandinavianDesign.com : Josef Frank's, life could be wonderfully characterized as on always in motion. When a Door Closes, a Table Opens...

Image
I'm totally loving the table that the awesome Kim Werker and her hubby Greg made for the front entrance of their home. And from an old door, no less! I especially love the mix of rustic and modern, plus the splash of yellow, which I have a serious colour-crush on right now. Read more about the project, with more pics (and an owl plate!),  on Kim's blog .

A New Life for Old Magazines

This shelf made from old National Geographic magazines is just brilliant. Doesn't everyone have a huge stack of old issues collecting dust in their basements?

More than the Sum of its Parts

Totally digging the "This & That" feature on Oh Joy! , where Joy pairs a fashion piece with a matching item of decor. I really like how Joy takes note of the small details in life, and celebrates them. I love discovering connections between things, and seeing how seemingly random elements are related - whether or not this is intentional. What's more, the act of placing objects side-by-side, like Joy does, really makes them act as a foils to one another, highlighting their best qualities. In the same way that the people closest to you - friends, family, loves - pull out the best in you. Check out more pairings tagged with "This & That" on the Oh Joy! blog .
